Review by Marko

his last concert in a warehouse with drummer Jayson Sherlock Mortification played on October 1 1993 in Blackstump Festival in Australia. Show was recorded and released in 1993 as a VHS tape (in 2006 re-release DVD with a lot of bonuses) and live album "Live Planetarium".

The selection of songs that were here, it's hard to have some major reservations. The program disc was driven mainly by the greatest hits from the previous achievements Mortification. So here are such gems as the extremely catchy "Brutal Warfare" flagship "Scrolls of the Megilloth" or extended "From the Valley of the Shadows." Of course, any fan of the team will be happy to dorzuciłby the setlist a few undisputed classics such as "Until The End", "Satan's Doom", "Terminate Damnation" or "Death Requiem", but unfortunately can not have everything ...

Besides these songs compensate for the lack of two brand new songs and a cover band Bloodgood. This is a cover of "Black Snake" - a number from the first album of that band. It has been played out as befits the Mortification, which is spontaneously and violently, but strikes a little spoiled here guitar solo ... The new songs came out flawlessly. Successful "Symbiosis", continuing the expanded and more thrash style of the "Post Momentary Affliction", found later on the LP the next group, "Blood World". The second new piece, having a splendid riff, "Time Crusaders" in the studio was only released on several compilation albums, so his presence here is doubly valuable.

absolute strength of this release is the atmosphere. You do not need too much imagination to feel like a concert group. Following plate is selective, one can clearly hear all the instruments, vocals and - more importantly - the raging crowd. I do not like overly przeprodukowanych, "studio" koncertówek, where the audience cheers occur at most during the breaks between songs ... In my opinion, very often no real climate of such publishers, a metal show. Here, however, almost every moment hear the genuine excitement of a group of fans who still clap, whistle, shout and sing your songs together with Steve. I do not know how this effect is achieved by means of technical tricks, and if this is an authentic record of the public reaction, however, looked a lot of video fragments described the concert, the second option seems to me very probable. Respect.

conclusion: "Live Planetarium" listen to the great and less than an hour with music by Mortification passes very quickly ... Maybe too fast. Why not release the album again? This album is a great summary of the first, the highest-rated by fans and experts of the period of the history of the group. Very good koncertówka.

Favorites: Time Crusaders

At the encouragement:

"Scrolls Of The Megilloth"

"Symbiosis"

"Brutal Warfare"

Rating: 8.5/10
